Unhappy Cat problem

I have been getting louder exhaust noise coming from near driver's side door. Went to the dealer and they told me I had a leak in the flex tube/pipe that comes as part of the Catalytic Converter, and that I have to replace the entire cat. No perceived loss in power, no check engine, no blockage, only a leak in the pipe.

My question: Is there anything that can be done outside of replacing the entire converter?

Anybody else ever had this problem?

Thanks!!
David.

Take it to an exhaust shop and see if they can cut the bad part out and weld in a Jew one.

Muffler bandage, if you can reach it.

I have heard of muffler bandage, but didn't know how good it would work.

If you're covering a rusted out hole on a pipe or muffler, it will last until the rest of the parts rusts away and it falls off. I don't know how well it will work on a flex connector as it bakes hard.

If it were a solid piece then you'd have options, but if it's actually on the flex (it'll happen with age and miles) then you have to find another one. See if you can find a used one/take off.
