MDS Tick
I have a 2015 Dodge Charger Pursuit with the 5.7 in AWD, with 86k miles.
While accelerating more than 1/4 throttle (or out of ECO mode), there is no noise that comes from my car.
Whenever the car enters ECO mode whether it be in town at 20-25mph or on the highway at 55-60mph, there is a tick/chatter that comes from engine. The sound is audible both inside and outside of the car while it is occurring.
If I use AutoStick and take the car out of ECO, the noise goes away and returns to normal operating sounds. Within 5-10 seconds after turning off AutoStick, the sound returns. I can also make the sound go away momentarily if I accelerate ~1/4 throttle and more.
Can anyone help me with diagnosing the sound and any fixes that I should try?
Thank you

Find out if the car is still covered by the powertrain warranty.
The Hemi MDS engines have a roller lifter failure issue. When you are in ECO mode, the eight (8) MDS lifters for Cyl Nos. 1, 4, 6 and 7 are deactivated solenoids (one for each cylinder).
Based on what you write it sounds like one or more of your MDS lifters may be failing. Nonetheless, you would also want to verify that a solenoid is not making the ticking noise. If it is not a solenoid but the lifter making the noise, then you remove the valve covers and while someone cranks the engine (with the fuel pump fuse removed), observe the rocker arms, paying particularly close attention to the rockers covering cylinders 1,4,6,7, for limited travel (which would indicate a failed lifter and possibly worse, a worn cam lobe for that lifter). If you observe this condition, then you would want to replace all of the lifters. In addition, although it is a lot of work, I would pull the cam and inspect the lobes. However, since you have not seen a check engine light or a blinking check engine light (which indicates a misfire in a cylinder), hopefully the lifter has not yet failed and is just starting to make noise.
If it is a noisy lifter, I would get to work on replacing it before it creates bigger problems (worn cam lobe and/or scattered metal throughout the engine).
I bought a 2014 Charger Pursuit this fall with the infamous Hemi lifter tick. The lifter to the intake lifter for cylinder 5 failed and wiped out the cam lobe. I am now in the process of putting the motor back together after installing a new cam. Get at it before you run into bigger problems.
Good luck.
