If your '12 is like my '12, it has a remote fuel door unlock button in the door?Originally Posted by Russ528

Which door are you referring to when you say "either open or close the door more so when I close the door?" If you're referring to the Driver's Door, then year this could be easy to explain. As mentioned, the remote fuel door release is located in the driver's door. If the switch is failing, or the wiring for the switch is compromised, the jostling from moving the driver's door may be moving the switch contacts or associated wiring enough to trigger the fuel door release. I haven't looked into the diagram, but the switch likely just shorts a line to ground to release the fuel door, and if that's the case, if the trigger wire has damaged insulation somewhere in the door or in the accordion boot between the door and the cabin, that damage might allow the wire to short to ground when the door is opened/closed and release the fuel door.

Latch mechanism could be failing, or it just needs lubrication.
As Magnoom was eluding to, if your 2012 has the fuel door release button in the driver's door, there's a relatively high chance that the switch or the wiring if failing and triggering the release when shaken from a moving door. More detail was provided in post #4 above so I won't repeat it here.
