This has happened a few times now. Driving along at freeway speeds, a loud Thunk is heard coming from the rear of the car. It only happens every once in a while. The engine is not under any load, and I am positive that it is not a pothole or road debris. My guess is that the self leveling rear shocks are over pressuring and popping the seal. I understand that the way they work is that as you drive they pump themselves up to level the load. Can they go too far?

Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

Could be your exhaust hitting cross member or the gas tank .
