New factory bulletin on repairing rear bumper to deck lid rubbing
Beging a regional physical damage manager for a large insurance carrier I raised our forums bumper cover concerns. In turn I had one of our direct repair program shops advised me that there is a tech bulletin and kit to repair the rear bumpers on the Chargers. I just dropped mine off to have the rear cover repainted and the new retro attachment kit installed. I will advise of the specifics once I get her back... Best get in line at your dealer before the word leaks...
Very nice, but mine is scheduled to go in Monday and they said they can "adjust" things, I dont need some yahoos moving things around so that I have to fix it the right way in a few years. Do you know the tech buliten number by chance?
Thanks!
Thanks!
Seems there are two fixes and the most important one has not been released yet as they have to make a taller trunk gasket and rubber stop spacers to lift the trunk lid off the bumper cover. This silent recall will not be out until July.
However if you look at your bumper and note that it appears not to fit the same on each side they do have a kit to repair and better secure the two sides.
For the time being they did this and polished out the clear rub marks on the cover. In addition Chrysler authorized installing strips of clear 3M scuff gaurd plastic to the corners of the bumper to prevent paint failure prior to the new gasket kit coming in.

Hey, could you tell me what they or you used to polish out the rub marks? I have already complained and its good to know the repair kit is coming out. I dont want to do any damage to the paint before the repair. Thanks.
A fine 3M compound used for final buffing clear coats. I would also presume a high speed buffer with a foam pad is required as not to burn the factory paint as it is very thin to begin with.
The Service Bulletin is 23-052-05 to have the rear cover to tail lamp spacing corrected. The part numbers are 06505546aa & 06104726ab which they will need two of. Also a dab of Mopar lock and seal adhesive is required part 04318031
