Newbie Q: charger vs 300C
Oh don't get me wrong
for me it's expensive too and my wife is not happy about it either, that’s why I need to see all the options and really plan this, if it ever going to work.
So what is the price of the Charger at your side? It might be worth a look at how to bring the car by myself.
Also could you tell me what is the AVARAGE consumption you guys are getting, not just on the motorway (highway on your side
)
You are right, the red is too much red, mind you, if somebody would give it to me, I would keep it

I bought my Daytona for $32,000 and had a sunroof, steering wheel radio controls, 322 watt sound system upgrade, and Sirius radio. I bought it under sticker. I have 9,000 miles on the car (half from a trip to California from Minnesota to see my Dad totalling 4,004 miles). My average going to CA was 25 MPG. I drove around out there on 1 tank, and when I got back I averaged 22.75. I drove out around 80 (75 is legal on the interstate system) but I also took a "short cut" through Yellowstone National Park, a 55 zone, on the way out and STILL got 25 avg. I had three 200 pounders (me and my two sons) and a trunk full of luggage. I drove almost all the time with the air conditioning on. I can't kick about the mileage. My updates to the car are: a Jet 2 chip, K&N 63 series cold air intake, and Magnaflow rear tips. I bought the car in January of 2006, but didn't drive it until May when the salt was gone. By then I put in the chip and other updates, so I never drove it stock.
I have heard others get the same mileage and some worse. I am not hard on my car (don't race much or drive it hard).
Sure seems odd to me that these "high performance" cars use 5-20 oil, but that seems to help with mileage too. You HAVE to use 5-20 for the MDS (4 cylinder mode) to work.
I really believe you'd LOVE the car if you got one. The new technology is pretty amazing. Wait till you open the hood, take off the plastic engine cover, and show you don't have spark plug wires. The coils, 8 of them, sit right over the two spark plugs per cylinder... I think that's pretty cool.
I suppose you'll be looking at putting on those yellow fog headlights, eh? LOL

I test-drove a 5.7 l V8 and I must say, as far as the sound goes I was not impressed. But then again, the reason for that is simple: In normal driving mode or standing still at a light it only uses 4 cylinders, hence the lack of sound, only when you accelerate hard do the other 4 cylinders kick in. Good for gas mileage but not quite the sound I would want.
I have to say my 2002 Mustang GT has a permanent V8 and makes a really good grumbly noise even with the factory exhaust.
Hence if I decide on a Charger, it would be the V6 - I guess I would go for looks rather than for sound.

I know, had the same feeling. But then I know that you need to de-restrict the exhaust pipes and the sound comes out.
I was too thinking about the oil burner 3.0, but then why to go through all the hassle when I could get nice BMW 530d for that with more gadgets.
So if hassle it has to be, then V8 it has to be

It's good to know that it can be driven "mildly", some car just gives you headache to drive slowly.
So I could calculate $30K just to make a life easier.
Let me spread the word in regards of shipping it over here. This is getting interesting
.
Told my wife yesterday that I really want the car, some goooood and skilled pursuing will still be needed
.
What is the difference (if any) between US and Canadian car?

Something to consider is that the Daytona has a free flow exhaust which louder that the 300c. I had planned on switching out the exhaust on my Daytona as soon as I got it so it would sound like my Superbee with a 440 V-8. After I test drove it, the sound is just right. I plan on putting long tube headers on it and leaving the stock mufflers and resonators. Opps, did I say mufflers and resonators. Sorry, I mean sound canceling devices. I don't think you will be disappointed with the Daytona sound, I'm not.

LOL as I was reading through the posts, I've seen some smacking about the mufflers and resonators topics LOL
BTW your Superbee looks sweet, but the only place I could drive it here would be and airport runway
with a privately owned petrol station

Velryba,
I am also thinking of importing a Charger R/T from the states. Did you do it in the end?
I have test driven the R/T (5.7l) and rented the 3.5l while I have been working in the states.
I have done quite a bit of homework on it and have had a few prices (approx):
Current UK/US exchange rate: £1=$1.89
£1000 for shipping
2% marine insurance on the value of the car
10% duty on all the above
17.5% duty on all the above (yes Vat on VAT!)
then you need to get it legal for the UK roads. no one can tell me exactly what is required but they have given a price of £1000 for the SVA test which will mainly include lighting work (rear and front side(wing/fender)indicators/rear fog lamps)
Then it is about £350 to register the vehicle.
If you do it yourself you could probably save about £5000-£8000 on the price of a 'specialist company' getting one for you.
As for the gas prices and MPG, remember the US gallon is different to the UK gallon about 7/8ths so 25MPG US will be about 30MPG UK.
I know prices for fuel are higher here but we have a people carrier (Citreon C8) and that averages 23MPG UK so that charger looks better every day! Even looking at Chrysler UK specs for the 300C and the Voyager (Dodge Caravan) they 'average' 25MPG UK and the 300C even states 30MPG UK on the 'open road' with the 5.7l HEMI.
So to sum up: £25000 for a fully loaded comfortable V8 HEMI which has german engineering (running gear) - makes that BMW a no go area!
As for the price in the states: yes its a LOT more than you guys pay ($30000 to our $40000+) but the offical price in the UK for the 5.7l HEMI 300C (the only LX car officially available over here) is £34000 ($64000!!) - so although we will be 'driving on the wrong side' - its worth it. You guys have it easy over there!!!

Well in north america, we are lucky to find 92 octane but in europe the cheapest octane you can find is 91 I think, and it runs up to 95 or 97? So there is a reason it is more expensive. On the highway, or motorways, it will get you about 25mpgUS, but in the city I am lucky to get 18, although, it is too much fun to get the tires skreeching at every light I have to stop for.
As for the sound, well the easiest way to make your vehicle mor obnoxious is to just remove the resonators! They are mid car, and some would tell you to move the muffler there, but dont, just run a straight pipe to fill the space, any muffler shop can do this for you.
