What is this???
Oh man it pains me so.
Well that's partially right, it's the real McCoy. It’s not easy to be cheesy.

<edit> I'll post up some pics of the mod in sunlight tomorrow.

I said it appears to be artificial. Lets just blame the photo, not the device. Did you put some lanyards on? You know, the type that loop through the grille?
Another thing to remember- if you were going to copy a genuine to make a fake, you always copy the prettiest. There is a complement to your hood pins in there somewhere. The pins are cool and your car's hood is pretty- with or without hood pins.

I was jacking w/ya, no fouls called
Yes, they came w/vinal lanyards but it was getting dark and I didn't have time to find a good mounting point for them.
I got them from JC Whitney, their stainless. I'm going to pick up a piece of thin rubber mat and cut some circles to place under the scuffplates.
<edit> My crew chief, pictured above, didn’t understand the project until it was said and done. Once the project meaning was understood I got a big smile and thumbs up from her. That was made every minute of drilling and grinding the hood worth it.

These are the hood pins I was looking at. They aren't as "classique" or cool as yours, Mango, but they seem less likely to have some punks use the retaining clips to scratch my hood when I go into the malt shop. (How's that for a reference to the past?)

What do you think of these? I look forward to your photos tomorrow and hearing about the install pains. I am a bit shy about drilling into my hood. I would really have issues drilling into a hood as nice as yours. It had to be a measure twelve times, drill once type of job.

I also eyed those when I ordered the ones I got. I was torn between them then though about keeping that key, I have too many keys to keep track of so I opted out of the keyed ones. I can always swap out if I have a change of heart.
The part # I got was 512326 HOOD ACCESSORIES from JCW. 7.99 + shipping, it came in under 15.00, what a deal!
<edit> There a couple more pics in the gallery.

I never thought about those little F's using the blasted clips against me.
Damn, now I have to ponder the choices again [>:]

The drilling wasn't bad at all:
Set the pins in really low.
Rolled up a small piece of masking tape (1/4" strip)
Put the tape on top of the pin and brought the hood down until it grabed the tape.
That marked where to start drilling.
Made a small 1/8" hole, and brought the hood down to insure it was on track.
Drilled twice more, one 1/4" and again with 1/2"
Used a dremel w/file to smooth and enlargen the hole a tad.
Raise up the pins, align and tighten em.
used a 1/16" bit as a pilot hole for the scuffplate screws.
The scruffplate will cover up a good 1" to 1.5 hole so there plenty of room to play.
