Help! Car will not go inot gear!
Hey guys. A buddy of mine has an SRT-8 Charger. The car will start and run fine, but a little figure 8 looking light comes on in the intrument cluster, and the car will not go into gear. What does this mean? He can't find any info on it in the manual at all.
hi there interesting problem i did see that once .when i was programing my rt when it got into the latter parts when the cluster was going thru its things the number 8 had appeared next to the prnd on the dash ,it may be a programming issue.but also if you go to dodge.com it states that the srt8 and daytonas have 8 forward gears,so im concluding the 8 is a number that maybe the computer is telling you something is wrong with the gears.
3767,
I just went to the Dodge.com site and under Charger specifications, drivetrain, the transmission is listed as having 5 forward gears -- the item just above the transmission is the number of cylinders, which says 8...
Maybe someone just read it too quick.

yep my apologizes mnboy is correct i read it quick or actually read the wrong line but i did still see what a saw when i programed the car with th superchip, best advice is get it hooked up to a diagnostic machine and get it checked out might propably be a warranty issue .just a little reminder there are a lot of computers in the car and a couple of times ive had to reboot them ,by disconnefcting the neg term on battery will do it .might fix it ,i had that happen twice 1 with a check engine light finally when out when i removed some stupid vortex crap i bought on ebay.the second was my esp bas light came on i shout the car of and back on it went out.it could be something that stupid.try them see what happens..
If you count the torque converter lockup in 3rd, 4th, and 5th as different gear ratios due to no slippage, you might be able to stretch it to 8. Personally, I count only 5.
