Default Is a 2.7L worth $15,800

This is a double post...wasn't sure where to put it.

I have the chance to get a black 06 with 18,000 miles for $15,800. I have been debating between the 3.5L and 2.7L for a long time. It will cost me another $2000 minimum to get a 3.5L where I live. Can the 2.7L be any slower than my 155hp 3.0L 2003 Taurus????? Any help with the decision would be great.

Oh, and here is the link to the car...like I said, they will take $15,800.

Private Party value is about $18,000, not sure if that is for the 3.5 or 2.7 though. KBB Retail is $20,500. $15,800 seems like a good deal.

If you want any kind of performance at all, you don't want the 2.7. I'm not sure you would see much difference in mph between the 2.7 and 3.5. The 2.7 would have to work harder than the 3.5 during acceleration, etc. And I'm not really talking about hard acceleration. Just less hp to move the same weight - it has to work harder. I would hold out for a good 3.5. I have an R/T, but have driven the 3.5 and I think it's one sweet engine. The 2.7 is basically your rental car motor.

In 1 word "NO!!" The 2.7 was only in rental cars, so that 18,000 miles is rental miles. And we all know how people treat rental cars.

2.7L Chargers were sold in Illinois at Dealers, also. When I bought my R/T, there were eight 2.7Ls that just came in and the saleman made a point of telling me I should buy them for my employees as company cars. I explained to him how I value employee retention and said they would at least get 3.5L H.O.s from me.

Hmmm.. Let me think.. 4200 pound unit.. severely underpowered.. in the hands of every jackleg Nascar wannabe.. pounded though traffic inspite of its size an weight as though it actually had an engine??

Sounds like a really baad plan to buy from a rental agency to begin with & this unit in particular.. I can't believe anyone would be happy with the purchase.. $15K or not.
