Rear hub removal, need help

Been trying to rebuild the breaks on a 56 custom royal, problem: How do you remove the keyway from the rear axel assy to remove the hub and drum? The shop manual only says to remove the keyway but does not explain how. I have tried a gear puller but the hub did not budge. I need to get the keyway out.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A hub puller will get it off when you put force (when you think it's going to explode) on the puller give it a whack with a hammer and that'll break it loose.
