1965-ish Dodge D300
I was at my friend's grandparents house a few weeks ago and they have quite a large property and his grandpa is a big collecter of trucks, although many are in no shape for the road. So we are walking around, and in a medow beside a Astro van I see a 1965-ish Dodge D300 flatbed. I instantly fall in love with this truck, although I couldnt get to close becuase some wasps and yellow jackets call it home. I walk around it and notice that the body and frame are in fairly decent shape but the wooden flatbed is trashed. I talked to his grandpa and said I could have it for $150 so I think Im gonna have a much closer look when the frost sets in and the stinging insects are gone. But anyway, what kinda engine would that big one ton have? I found a few sites on the internet, but I have a hard time believing a mere V6 could move that thing. I did see that the 383 was in the trucks, but Im not sure the body style of this one was in the 383 years.

RE: 1965-ish Dodge D300
I think this may be a little off topic, but I have made up a concept design of my '65. This isnt my truck in the pic, but one very very close to mine. I have came up with this:
Since it is a 1 ton dually, I want to make it a 5th wheel hauler. The steel framed, wood deck, of the flatbed will become an all steel bed with diamond plate. I am undecided of a power plant, but Im leaning tward a Cummins 12 valve. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions/tips on these series of pickups. Im mostly used to the 1981-1993 Rams, so Im wondering how much of a different beast these old D series trucks are.

Hey, So I have a 1966 Dodge D300 with a 225ci slant six. I'm am actually currently working on it to get it driving around again. I am interested in hear what engine the truck has once you get a chance to get at it. Also I'm looking for a carb kit for my truck, anyone know where i could get one?

What Carburetor? Lorrie Van Haul has a 225 Slant Six, runs a Holley 1920. Got the Rebuild Kit from NAPA. $39.95. HTH

Carter is quite common brand.
The 225 Slant Six came stock with a number of different Carburetors over the years. The Holley 1920 was used in 1967 through 1973, as was the Stromburg WW3 in 1967. The Ball and Ball BBD was used between 1968 and 1977. The Carter BBS was used in 1973 and 1974. All were single throat units. There was also the Holley 2210 which was a two throat used in 1973 through 1977. There were probably others also. (Reference: "Dodge/Plymouth Van" Chilton's)
The most common for the 225 Slant Six is a 1 venturi (single throat), though I've seen Intake Manifolds for 2v, and 4v.
I'd LOVE to have a 4v Manifold with a baby Holley (390 cfm 4150). Alas, it would just be for looks because that is much more Carburetor than Lorrie's little 225 Slant Six needs without changing the cam, and possibly going to a set of headers
Anyway, Carter is a good unit.
Lorrie's Carburetor is a 1v Holley 1920.
Hope you are well.

My 1965 Dodge D300 Pickup
Here is a pick of my truck. It has 54k original miles on it and I bought it from the original owner who had all paperwork including original book and original sales receipt. Beautiful truck with a 318 motor and 4 speed tranny.
