Dodge Wayfarer Business Coupe '49
Hi everybody,
I am new to this forum, but I have signed up because I recently have bought a Dodge Wayfarer Business Coupe from '49. It has 19100 miles on the clock, which I believe to be true since the car was exhibited at a car dealer for 30 years. I can tell from the papers that there were 3 owners while the Dodge was in the US. It came to Denmark in 2000, and since then it have been sold and bought a lot of times. I bought it a couple of weeks ago, and in my case this is a keeper.
I have been doing some researching about the car, and have located at a previous owner some old bills that belong to the car. Besides that, also some pictures from when the car arrived at harbour in Denmark.
Anyway, I have heard about something called 'Carfax', I am not familiar with it since we don't have anything similar in Europe. But from what I can understand it is possible to check up cars on their VINs, right ? Will I be able to check up my Dodge ?
Best Regards

Okay, thanks for the information.
I believe the Wayfarer model year '50 had a different front, but not sure.
The car is truly a survivor. But the thin paint on the fenders, especially the front left which you will be able to see on the above picture has come to my mind. I have done a lot of research and is now in possession of pictures from one of the previous owners. I first thought of the lack of paint to be patina from over the years. But an only 8 years old picture shows no 'patina' of such kind. I assume the lack of paint on the fenders is the result of wrong storage and it can't be more than a few years old.
What would you guys do ?
Just keep it as it is ? Or repaint the fenders and bring the Dodge back to previous glory ? Or perhaps spray a thin layer of new paint on and polish the fenders up - this way it would keep the 'patina' but it wouldn't be that visible any longer.
I like the idea of the car being a survivor. Any advise on above ?

I know..
.. But I think the car deserves better, the lack of paint can't be more than a couple of years old. The picture I have shows the car in perfect condition regarding the paint. So I assume one of the previous owners within the last 3-4 years have stored the car wrong, spilled something on it or mistreated the car. It is sad, and I think it deserves better.
I am leaning very much towards to spray a thin layer of new paint on the affected areas, and then of course polish it.
