Default The Dodge 239 and the 318,(3.9l&5.2l)

[hr]I have alot of questions when it comes to these motors,

this is gonna be long but here it goes

so i was wondering if you all could give me a few answers, I'm currently running the 3.9l v6 and Im about ready to buy a 5.2l motor for some street stocker drag racing. Now when it comes to the motor, I know that the 239 is basically the 318 with two cylinders cut off, so i was wondering when i get around to swapping the motors if i could keep the original motor mounts and the original tranny. Is it possible for me to do that? Just remove one motor, put the other in, plus computer. . I've also been looking into the crossmember ordeal, i think that the 3.9 and the 5.2 have the same crossmember? maybe?

Yea, NAPA lists differant P/N's for the 3.9L vs. 5.2L.
As far as the transmission, if it's an automatic you have, you probably have the 42RE, which "will work" with the 5.2L I've heard, it's just not as strong as the 46RE. It'd be advisable to upgrade the transmission as well.
Good luck with the upgrade, and let us know how it goes.

yeah so ive read that some ppl with 3.9l motors are turnin like 14.4s on a quarter mile, i highly doubt the truth in this but ive been wondering whether i ought to swap the motor or not.... I dont have the automatic transmission. I disslike their complexicity and tendency to break. i think it should work though, smae bellhousing. but i think ive found my solution to this whole POS fuel injection thing(see my other post)
so i might be able to tune a carb to run a 15 second quater mile anyway

What's the story on installing the 46RE transmission on the 3.9l motor? I'm researching transmission replacement options, and this has my extremely interested. My transmission is fine at the moment, but it's a relatively high milage vehicle, so I would just like to be prepared incase the situation comes up.

A 46RE to a 3.9 is a waste of money IMO. If and when your transmission goes, just rebuild it up better(shift kit, bands, etc.) I'm assuming you have the 42RE/A-500? You would have to change transmission mounts and get the driveshaft length changed.
