Default Fuel Injection is Overrated

Ok now that i have your attention, I was wondering about this here question of mine... I read an article on this website that the 3.9l motor(that of which i have) was put in the dakotas in 1987 (original year) BUT ACCORDING TO THIS ARTICLE the 3.9 DID NOT have fuel injection until 1988, therefore it came with a Carb stock for at least one year? correct? or is this article bogus?
I was also wondering if i could find one of these Carb intake manifolds, put it on my 99 3.9l and say the H*ll with a computer and all its idiot lights in my dash. Now I know how to work on a carb, but i dont know a dang thing about fuel injection, please note i do not care about gas mileage, all my money manages to go to my truck, whether its gas or whether its parts.
