Default Help Over-torqued Lower Ball Joint

Hello,

I am new to the forum andwonder if someone can give me some advice. I have a98 Dakota SLT 4x4 3.9L and just replaced all the ball joints.I over-torqued one of the lower ball joints,by mis reading the specs,Torqued it to 135, should have been 90. Now the rubber boot looks like it is crushed a bit and is not seating properly. My question is, do you think I can just replace theball joint or do you think I also damaged thesteering knuckle?

Thanks,
Dave

I think your fine. Just back off and retorque it to specs. I don't think you hurt the joint. They seat in a taper, and only go down so far. The boot is supposed to look a little crushed, thats how it holds grease in.
