Has anyone seen a the new 2008 Dakotas first hand yet besides the Pics on the Internet?
Anyone know when Dodge will update their website so that you can "build your own" 2008 model?
Just curious...Cheers,
Bryan

I actually interviewed the Chief Engineer for the Dakota, Bob Neidemayer, at the Chicago Auto show press preview.
I was all amped up to see how the new model would be marketed.
To my great dissappointment, they make you buy the SLT just to be able to opt for the 300hp 4.7L.
I was seriously considering getting a 'stripper' club cab with the 3.92:1 locker and 4.7L. But at $26,000, you might as well get a full size pickup.

The small and midsize category has ben so moribund lately. Dodge needs to jazz it up with a "Roadrunner" ST club cab with standard 300hp engine and 3.92:1 axle.
I went to the Chevy website, and - granted it's smaller, no v8, but you can get a comparable ext cab Colorado for about $23,000 - that's with the biggest engine, power windows etc - seems like if you were shopping 'midsize' trucks, that would be more logical choice.
You can also get a Chev/GMC reg cab 'loaded' - including 300hp V8 for about the same price - and it's actually about the same wieght as the Dakota - so performance would be about the same.
I know Dodge restricted the Hemi from base model Ramsfor a year or two, and then relented. Let's hope they wise up quicker with the Dakota.
