How Long will my truck last?
I have a 1994 Dodge dakota catering truck conversion with 126,000 miles on it. We take realtivley good care of it. We get oil changes every three months etc... It has a v6 engine. We really only make short trips with it, we never really take it on the highway. Actually i dont think its ever been on the highway (I know thats not a good thing). It is a catering truck so it is always carrying a load.
You can view the picture of it below
thanks

Until the wheels fall off of it. The only thing I would consider trading mine in for would be the 2nd or 3rd model year the Durango is availablewith the Hemi hybrid. Dodge doesn't make the Dakota with abig V8 anymore.
Mine is still going strong. The only issues I've had with it during the first few years I owned were the power steering rack, cooling system and an electrical issue. Those were repaired under my service contract through GM. My Dakota was purchased new with a portion of the original 3/36 warranty left on it. The contract paid for itself with the trans and electrical issues. I also had the warranty trans work done by AAMCO and paid for a lifetime warranty. The Vegas AAMCOs on the east side of town hate me because I refuse to trade in or sell my truck. Since I had no auto loan payment, I put the money in to have it fixed, new paint, removed all of the dings. Looked like a new truck except for the interior and a couple of bumper dings. I had some idiot t-bone my truck at work (hit and run)so I have some minor body work that needs to be done along with replacing a headlight bezel and a tail light.
After the contract expired the only issue I've had was with the an oil leak, the fuel sending unit (twice), water pump and the drivers side lower door hinge breaking. The water pump lasting to about 90K or so miles isn't bad. It seized last January. Unfortunately it seized 55 miles from Vegas south of Hoover Dam, the towing bill was almost $300.
Once your vehicle is paid off unless you need something major done; it's worth keeping. The only thing I had about myCaliber purchase is the auto loan payment and the insurance hike for putting a 2nd new vehicle on my policy. Also in Nevada your vehicle registration is based on the currently value of the vehicle, it goes down as your vehicle depreciates. My registration for my 2008 Caliber is over $300. My truck is under $50 which is as cheap as it will ever get.
Don't ask how I know, but my Dakotagoes 100+ uphill in the mountainswithout an issue.

Update:
today i had a problem with the truck. I was taking it on the highway, and as i was getting up to speed, the rpm's went from 4 to 6 and i wasnt moving any faster, after a few seconds, it felt like something grabbed, the rps went down, and i began to speed up.
What is the problem?

my first truck was a 90 dakota (which i got in 2000 from my dad) and at the point in time where i got it, it had over 350,000 miles on it...we think the odometer broke at some point so everyone in my family is sure there were way more miles than that on it. my brother's step-son took it in 2003 or 2004 and totaled it in his back yard...i was so pissed off about that. i tihnk as long as you keep it fairly well maintained, you'll have it for a long time. good luck with it
