01 dak. 4.7 need to clean throttle body -help!
I have a 2001 Dakota 4.7.
I was told by the dodge dealer that my throttle body is pretty gummed up.
I then inspected it. I stuck my finger in the whole and there was like a black dirt/gum all over the inside.
How bad is this?
Can someone tell me how to clean a throttle body?
Will this improve my gas mileage? I am getting about 13 mpg right now.

That sounds pretty bad! Either take it off and manually clean it or use some SEAFOAM, it is a good cleaner. A clean TB def will increase mileage. Thats probably why its so low. Good luck
I did my 2000 Durango 4.7 in about 15 inuted total. I am assuming your 2001 is the same, if not, I apologize. Pull the hat off and if I remember right you will see the TV cable and the throttle cable off to the left. Remove both of those by releasing the clips. I believe there are three bolts holding the TB on. Pull those out and the TB can now be removed. Clean it up with carb cleaner or brake cleaner works real well as well. When done, put it back on and re-attach the cable and hat. Now enjoy a smoother idle and better mileage. There should be no need to change the gasket.
