No mechanic can figure out whats wrong
Check the wires under the fuse box.
I had the same problem and it wasn't till it just wouldn't start anymore that
I did a search online and found out about the wires under the fuse box.
they go to the starter.
Unwrap them and check real good.
I bet they're corroded.
cut them where they connect and solder them or use a but connecter
and tape them back up real good so they dont short
or get wet.

I would not put it past the wiring under the fuse box like everyone is saying. I havent been under the dash of a dodge in years but I can remember from my days installing car alarms and remote starts that there is some pretty creative wiring going on under there.
Had a similar problem with my 97 dak, could be the well known battery connection problem. Clean both post and make sure they are tight. I had a little wiggle no matter how tight I got the bolt on the positive terminal. It was also rotted back inside the jacket behind the terminal on the positve side. You could see the bulge and feel the weak wire inside the jacket. Cut it back and replaced the end...problem solved.
Also it could to be the distrubutor pick up aka cam sensor bUt the next time it will not start take a hammer to the bottom of the fuel tank an hit it while someone else is cranking on the engine if it starts then it's starts it's the pump just a technician quit way of diagnosing a pump
I'm siding with "Flyers win the cup", It's fuel related, not ignition. Checking wiring is a good idea, but either the pump is dying slowly, power is being lost to the pump, or the injectors are being shut off. When fuel pumps die, sometimes they'll quit and then start running again after they cool off for a little while. My initial diag says pump. Next time it dies, check for pressure. There is a schrader valve on the fuel rail. Check for pressure there.
