Help with klunk
91 Dodge Dakota, 318, Automatic Trans, 4X4. After normal to hard braking, When I release the brake or start to accelerate, I can see the transmission move slightly and feel a klunk. I have checked the trans and motor mounts, they are good. U-Joints are new, Backlash in Diff appears normal, Doesn't feel like brakes, if I smash the brake pedal after the klunk to attempt to re-create it, all appears normal. I'm running out of ideas. Any new ones out there, your post is appreciated
please explain "i can see the transmission move slightly"... i could be wrong, but in every car i've ever driven the tranny is under the car not visible while driving
lol...
could still be the u-joints, my friend just had his tranny redone, they put brand new u-joints on his truck, and on the 3rd week of driving it (not even excesivly (sp) hard) both rear u-joints literally snapped and he watched his driveshaft bounce around in the middle of the street behind him... i'd pull the driveshaft and tear the lil sucka's apart and see if they are in fact good, if not, go get new ones... and i beleive autozone carry's a "tougher" u-joint that has a lot more meat to it and is supposed to last a lot longer...
good luck...
