i just bought a 97 dakota, and every time i lock the doors with the automatic locks, then use my key to unlock the truck, the alarm goes off.

 

is there anyway to prevent this? also is there a way to disable the alarm system? the truck did not come with an owners manual :-(

 

The only way to unlock it is with the remote, I think.

 

ok thanks, ill make sure to get a remote asap. in the meantime the alarm went off and now my truck wont start, turn over, no power nothing, battery has full 12.8 charge... any ideas how to reset the alarm or whatever so i can start my car.

 

Oops, I just realized you have a '97. Your alarm is probably aftermarket so anything is possible.
Best advice would be to find the original installer.
Second choice is to find the manufacturer (hopefully on the alarm under the hood) and go to their web site for tech support.
It has some kind of ignition defeat switch that you may not be able to override.
I would remove it completely after I verified all the components with the manufacturer.

 

im almost 100% sure the alarm is manufacurers alarm. i dont beleive its aftermartket.

ive called 3 dealers and have goten the worst customer service ever, its frustrating when your car wont start becuase you tried unlocking it with THE one and only key.

 

anyone have anymore tips suggestions or tricks to get this beast started?
