Maybe I'm missing something, but it sounds like what my truck was doing when My Cat went bad. If I pressed the gas slowly, it would accelerate fine, but when it was hammered on, the truck would red-line and barely move.

 

THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT MINE WILL DO. SO MAYBE I NEED TO GET MY CAT SEEN ABOUT. DID THAT FIX YOUR PROBLEM WHEN YOU DID REPLACED IT?

 

Yeah, as soon as I had the cat replaced it ran smooth as ever. You can do a simple check on the cat by knocking on it with a rubber mallot. If you hear a rattle in there, the element has broken loose.

 

ALRIGHT I AM GOING TO TRY THAT WHEN I GET HOME FROM WORK TODAY. I AM REALLY HOPING THAT WILL FIX IT. DID YOU REPLACE IT WITH ANY HI-FLOW CAT OR JUST STOCK?

 

I replaced mine with a stock converter. There is a law here in CA that they have to replace the cat if it goes bad in the first 80k miles.

 

WELL I DID TRY WHAT YOU SAID AND I DIDN'T HEAR ANYTHING. BUT I WAS ALSO IN A HURRY ONE MORNING BEFORE I HAD TO GO TO COLLEGE WHEN I DID IT, AND I HADN'T HAD A CHANCE TO CHECK IT AGAIN SINCE THEN. IF I EVER HAVE MORE TIME I AM GOING TO CRAWL UNDER THE TRUCK AND HAVE A LOOK AT IT AGAIN. IF THIS ISN'T THE PROBLEM THEN I DON'T KNOW WHAT COULD BE.
