no more than 3000 RPM's
I have a '99 3.9 litter, V6 that I just realized wont let me go over 3000 RPM's, no matter what gear I am in. No Check engine light. The best way that I can describe it....it is acting like it has a governor. No other noises, or symptoms, other than my Catalytic Converter is loose and rattling...(Taking in under warranty next week)..but that shouldn't be causing this problem.....any ideas?
If you cat has been rattling then it would leads me to believe that it could be the problem. My cat was rattling horribly and I kept putting off getting it replaced. On a trip up north (a MI term) I lost power and was only able to limp the truck along the side of the road. When I stopped and let the truck cool down it ran fine for a while unless I put it under a heavy load.
Stating that you can't go over 3000 rpms makes me wonder if your exhaust pressure is throwing the loose cat up against your pipes and blocking you system. It's basically choking the engine to death.
If you don't know, the cat is covered by a 9yr/80000mi federal emmisions warrenty. They shouldn't give you any problems replacing it.

Thank you for the replies. For anyone wondering, it was my cat that was causing the problem and yes the dealership fixed it under warranty (and only in a couple of hours to my surprise). My truck is running like new.
