98 DODGE DAKOTA A/C PROBLEMS
I HAVE A DAKOTA IS MAKING ME PULL MY HAIR OUT!!!! I'LL BEEN A TECH FOR 15 YEARS AND THIS ONE GOT ME. GET TO THE STORY IT HAS COLD COLD AIR @ IDLE PUT WHEN YOU GO DOWN THE ROAD IT WAS SMOKE THE A/C CLUTCH OFF. THE AIR GAP IS FINE TO SPEC. IT HAS HAD A LOW AND HIGH PRESSURE SWITCH,NEW A/C COMPRESSOR,RELAY . THE PRESSURES ARE FINE ON LOW AND HIGH SIDE. IT HAS GOOD VOLTAGE TO THE COMPRESSOR AND GROUND. PUT IT WILL STILL SMOKE THE CLUTCHES GOING DOWN THE ROAD. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT!!!!!!! THANKS <TOOLMAN>
I'd say either the compressor is dragging, or the clutch is bad. Try turning the center of the clutch by hand, it should turn fairly easy. You could also try taking the belt off and see if there is any play in the clutch assembly.
