Why discontinue the Dakota?
Sales on the Daks were lacking for the longest time.
Mostly because the Full size trucks were becoming way more affordable, and fuel economical.
Just as an example: My dads 2011 Ram Bighorn 1500 with the Hemi gets better fuel economy then my 93 Dakota with the 318. Fyi his engine has just about twice my engines HP and Torque.
