Well, to determine if it's a 5.2/5.9 or a 4.7, does it have overhead cams or not?

If it does, and it came from a Dakota, it's a 4.7 .

The best way to determine if it's a 5.2 or 5.9 from outside is to check the counterweighting on the flywheel / flexplate. Of course, technically the method at http://www.magnumswap.com/dodge-magnum-engine-search/ should also work fine, and may be easier than determining if the flexplate or flywheel is neutral balanced or not.
