Killed my engine
I held 6000rpm for approximately 5+ seconds and the oil pump failed and I killed the rod bearings. And scored the crankshaft. Bad. Real bad. When I drained the oil it was grey and sparkly from all the metal in it. The bottom of the oil pan is filled with about 1/4" of metal flakes. Starting tomorrow, I'm going to start pulling the engine as the crank has to come out. It is currently undecided if I'm going to have it machined or just buy a re-manufactured one of rockauto. I'll also replace the oil pump. Not sure what else at the moment as I can't say how extensive the damage is until the engine is out of the truck.
Curious if anyone has any advice about pulling the engine and removing the crank. I'm doing it by the book and taking every step the service manual has aside from using special tools I don't own.
Also any cheap modifications I can make? I can't afford any cool upgrades like new rods and pistons or nice heads or even HO cams but the worst part for me about pulling the engine is I'm not doing any upgrades since Clemson University is robbing me semesterly.
At least it was time for an oil change though.
