Convert 2WD to a 4WD
Hello,
I am 16 and I just got a '92 2WD Automatic Dodge Dakota Club Cab. I was wondering if it'd be possible and worth my time to try and convert it to a 4WD? And how would someone go about doing something like this?
Thank you,
-Jason

LOL LOL. Just kidding, it's possible and if you found all used parts you could do it for around 3500-5000. If you had the dealer do it it would run about 10K.Really not worth it. If you want 4X4, sell it and buy a 4X
a VERY basic run down of what has to happen is: all stock front suspention/stearing components gone.
you would need a new front axle, a transfer case, leaf springs....a LOT of cutting and welding
and a whole lot of new parts

Nope-no leafs, uses torsion bars and you can't make 4WD stuff fit on a 2WD frame, you would need to replace the frame and all the front suspension, the transmission is different and the the t-case obviously. Not worth it, move on.
I'm in the same boat as you wanting th 4wd but only having a 2wd. The procedure should not be to hard as long as you had another dakota to drop an enigine in or the parts to take out of. but I'm just weary of my skill to do this myself just yet.
