Default Looking for experiences, good and bad.....

Hi everyone. I just joined the site and am looking for any information that people might be able to give me. I've found a 2002 Dakota Quad Cab for sale, 4.7 auto. 4x4 22K miles. I'm looking for advice on what to look for to make sure this is a good truck. I would also like good and bad comments/experiences about these trucks. The price is reasonable; I can get it for about 3000 under KBB. Thanks for any help.

PS, I'm also trying to find out an estimate on fuel mileage for this set-up, so if you could give me that, too, that would be great. I tried the Dodge website, but couldn't find anything.

hi,

have an 01 auto quadcab 4x4 fully loaded with a few more miles, still under dodge warranty. i'll just tell you about mine, i'm sure it is not representative of all.

1. gets from 14-18 mpg with 18 the max using regular gas
2. has an erratic idle when first started, have had the dodge dealer check this out and they know what the problem is but the warranty will not pay to replace the necessary part until it gets worse. it is'nt a real problem and goes away after several minutes, they made a note of this in the computerized service record.
3. shifts hard, sometimes, when turning corners and accelerating from low speeds. had transmission serviced $138.95, the dealer says there is not a problem and cannot duplicate this situation.
4. has a bad squeak when going over speen bumps, etc. the dealer says the ball joints are fine, it needs tie rod end bushings $99.89 to replace. they say it will not hurt it to drive it until i can bring it in.

other than this, it seems to be a great truck

Have you consider a Toyota Brand Truck. Japan automobiles are one of the best auto makers around. Specialy when it comes to quality and resale price.
I like my Dakota, but at 27,000Km the Ac condenser got busted. then around 33,000Km the the fuel level in the tank thing got busted to and the truck left me stranded in the street, with no gas.[>:]

Over here where i live Toyota is the best quality automobile around.

If I was going to buy a new Dakota, I would wait for the next generation. Hopefully they will have solved the ball joint problem, cooling fan on the 4.7 problems, mis-aligned rearend, water leaks, etc. Besides, the next generation looks good.

The only reason I'm looking at buying this one is, well, I found it. There aren't any Toyota trucks around here for sale, or on the road period. As far as buying a new one, I can't afford that much, thus why I'm in the used vehicle market. I've got a few other trucks I'm looking at, but this one is the front-runner for now. Plus the dealer that the truck is at has a salesman whose son (a good firend of mine) was left a quadraplegic after a vehicle accident 12/26/2002. I was looking all over the place, and then I thought to look there, and not only will I be helping him out, but also will be getting a truck I like. Thanks a lot for all the responses, and keep them coming!!

By the way, if everything goes right, I'll be driving this truck as soon as Wednesday.
