My son got a 2002 Dak quadcab - questions
Yesterday, my son bought, with my help, a 2002 Dakota quadcab. Pretty nice little truck. It has the 3.9 and a nice camper shell.
Question: What can be done to help in the gas mileage department? CAI, exhaust? What else? Also, what kind of mileage can he expect? I'm thinking 18-20 on the highway.
Thanks for your input.

Your estimate for mileage is about correct. In my '96, I get about 18MPG highway (going around 70-ish) with the A/C on (which just died before my journey back to Arkansas [:@]).
From what I have read on here, CAI and exhaust are the favorite of mods that can help boost performance and give a little mileage.
You might also consider switching to synthetics, which could maybe give you a slight MPG boost.
Hope he enjoys the truck!

i get get 16/21mpg outta my 2003 clubcab 3.9. thats 16mpg in the city and doing ~85mph on the highway. cruising at 70mph i'll hit 21mpg, even with a/c running.
i've only done the easy performance mods: cold air intake, v8 throttle body swap, 180 thermostat and superchips 3715 programmer. truck weighs in around 4300 pounds with the camper shell
