Help, please?
Let me start off by saying that I'm new here, I'm a automobile moron, and if this topic has already been covered, I apologize.
The truck I have is a 2003 Dodge Dakota
Anyway, my check engine light had been on for a while and after reading through the manual I realized that if it's not blinking, I'm in pretty good shape. Then two weeks ago, the battery died, something with the throttle wouldn't work and the serpintine(?) belt went out. Everything was changed, and after looking at the receipt from the shop, I realized the check engine light was on due to the fact that I hadn't had the 90,000 mile inspection (the light was off after I got it back from the shop).
Then 3 days later, the check engine light came right back on! I don't have the $$ to take it back to the shop. Do any of you have any suggestions? If so, please email me at mrelam@earthlink.net
Thanks
D

I believe Pep Boys will scan your computer codes for free...Then you can decide what to do after you know why the lights on. It could be as simple as your fuel cap is not on tightly.
auto zone will allow you to use their code reader for free. write the code(s) down, then go here to check what the problem is:

keep in mind that not fixing a check engine light could allow that to mask other problems your vehicle is having.

You can also use the directions in the beginning of that post to check the code yourself. It will cycle through and tell you the code and then you can reference the thread to see what it is.

that only works for some of the trucks in gen2. i know it does NOT work for 1999 dakotas; you HAVE to use a code reader. it really sucks to, let me tell you!
