Default Non Magnum engines

Im just a young gun, going to be thinking about getting a first vehicle soon and I have been thinking about a Dodge Dakota 4x4 because I would like something that is quarter ton, but still big enough to haul a skidoo or ATV easily in the box. So I have done some research and found out that the 1987-1991 dakota's didnt come with magnum engines. So I was wondering how powerful are the 3.9l and 5.2l engines that arent magnum. I read that the 3.9 only has 125hp, isnt that kind of low for a big V6. Would that be enough power to haul a skidoo easily and to be able to romp though mud and easily keep the tires spinning? And did the 1987-1991 dodge dakota's with a 5.2l, were they also optional with 4x4? Thanks alot.
Edit: I got another question about the 4x4, my mom doesnt really want me to get a 4x4 because 4x4 parts are some much money, so I was wondering how are are dakota's from 1987-1996 on 4x4 parts if your easy on it and shift it like the manual says too? And I guess another question too, did any of the dakota's have manual locking hubs? Thanks again

first of all the V8 wasnt an option till 92. and there was a lil bit more power when they switched over to magnum engines. but my 88 dak has enough power to do what I want to do with it.

I put my 4 wheeler in the back of mine and it bottoms out. but it will still climb hills and take off pretty good. and my 2wd is great in the mud. I've been places where my most 4x4's get stuck. but that was when it was stock, and not lowerd.

but I would go with a 92+ V8 4x4

i agree, the dakota is a very good truck, very dependable and lasting. i have a 93 5.2 with about 185,000 miles and it still runs good, good power. i pull all kinds of trailers, haul dirt(full load- yard and 1/2 ) the previous owner had a fith wheel on it and used to haul a travel trailer thru west texas and nm. so it is a damn good truck!!!
