Default Cam suggestions?

Hey, I am planning to tear down my 94 318 dakota in the next little while. I deffinately want to make it something different and somewhat faster. So... obviously the cam has to be changed, but I cannot find much information on changing magnum engines camshafts. I know on the older A engines that the 340 cams worked great, but I'm not sure if this is still the same putting a 340 magnum cam in a 318 magnum engine. Has anybody swapped cams and have had good results? I heard that cams with lift around 0.430 to 0.455 work good with A engines, but is this the same with magnums?

I had a .454 cam in my 82 ram 360 and it worled amazing. it had that lumpy cam sound to it too.

I replace my cam when the engine was completely out of the truck. but they just slide out and the new one slides right it. but dont forget to lube her up really good before she goes in

Lube it up with just regular motor oil? And ya my engine will be completely out... so that should make this a little bit easier. Does anybody know the specs i posted earily if thats applicable to magnum engines? I did some more research and found out that people sometimes upgrade to the R/T Hp camshaft with a 0.458/0.467 lift.

I dont know anything about those specs but, the cam will come with the lube when you buy them. and I would soak it in motor oil too. you can never lube it too much. cause it wont get any oil from the engine for a couple of seconds on first start up.

if you go to your local hotrod shop, they will tell you everything you need and what would work best for your application

K, awesome. I think I may consult a machine shop in the future.

Check with www.KRCPerformance.com . They have Cams there for our engine types.

Suggest go to the KRC Performance web site for Magnum engines. I use their KRC 210X cam (which still throws an occasional multiple misfire code) but has cleared emissions testing twice.
