Default Add cleats to the bed?

I have a 2005 Quad Cab/Short Bed and need to haul twomotorcycles. The bed is definitely wide enough for two bikes, but I need to find a way to tie them both down. There's a cleat on each side of the bed in the front, but I don't want to have to tie the bikes together in the middle, so I'd need to add a cleat in the middle of the front of the bed. I'm thinkingI would add one on the verticle section just behind the cab.

Do you think the metal at the front of the bed would be thick enough to support the tension created by a cleat that's strapping down two sport bikes? Has anyone ever tried this?

Default RE: Add cleats to the bed?

Honestly I would just spring for a 5X8 trailer with 2 wheel chocks. And loading 2 sportbikes in teh bed of a truck is a PITA anyways. Been there, done that MANY TIMES (especially at the track helping injured racers load theirs).

Yeah the beds wide enough, but not LONG enough (I dont consider teh tailgate exactly strong enough to support a motorcycle other than for loading).

But for the cleats, I would floor mount them and use a backing plates thats at least 1.5" wider than teh cleat. Basically sandwich the floor sheet metal. You can do that with the front bed wall metal too but its harder to get at.
