Yesterday I started my Dart and I drove off. About 1/2 mile from home my car just stalled. My neighbor was driving by stopped to assist and I tried to start the car again but all we heard was one click noise from the engine. So we attempted to jumpstart the car. On the second try after waiting for about 2-3 min the car just started. Got it home with no issues while it ran we tested the battery, 14+ volts. Turned the off battery read 12+ volts. I waited 3-5 later tested the batt. 12+ volts then try her to state it, no issues. Now this morning I went to leave for work and the car didn’t have enough power to start the car on, heard one click and nothing, I tested the battery before starting the car and it read 12.53 volts on the meter. Could this be battery issue or an alternator issue? Taking the LIRR to work. Any help would be appreciated.

 

Get the battery load tested. Measuring voltage does not tell you everything you need to know about battery health. Could have a bad cell and still read 12+ volts, but not enough amps to turn the engine over. Sounds like the alternator is ok based on the 14+ volt reading with the engine running.

 

To get the battery load tested, who or where can’t i get that done? Autozone?

Yes, most auto parts stores have the equipment to load test.
