2.2 engine compatibility
I used to have an 87 shelby Z and loved it. I'm about to get an 87 (i think) d50 2.6 standard tonight and was wondering whether its possible to bolt in the 2.2
Does the 2.2 share the same bolt pattern as any rear wheel drive prefferably 5 speed transmissions?
if the truck is in good shape and I decide to do this conversion I'll probably pickup a cheap 2.2 non turbo, rebuild it for turbo and make some serious power in the truck.
does the 2.2 turbo have any modifications to the block over the 2.2 n/a or is it just the turbo maybe piston factor? if not just pistons i'll get a 2.2 turbo engine.
I'm gonna post this with the truck guys too if there is a section.
any other suggestions for getting the 2.2 to work would be great. ex: truck tranny/low rear gear, etc etc.
oh, I also have a caravan with a 3L in it i'm about to junk it... I'm assuming this engine always sucked and its not just mine. performance options would be limited i gather?

actually, what are all my engine choices do you suppose? and what tranny's would be used.
I'd like to keep it small displacement and have good reving... basically more of a car than a truck. a race car...
I just read a 4g53 from a talon has been done for drifting, but dont know his tranny

The Ram 50 was produced by Mitsubishi and sold by Chrysler. If the engine is a 2.6L (4G54 aka G54B)it is a Mitsu engine which means you are more than likely stuck with mitsu engines.

http://www.allpar.com/fix/26.html(this says the 2.2 swaps in... which means the 2.5/3.0 and possibly 3.3L should fit as well.)
