'92 Daytona overheating
Hey, it's been awhile since I was last here, but I had good luck last time...my 1992 daytona 2.5 litre is (auto) has been overheating lately. I drive on the highway alot so this is when I am noticing it.
I was wondering how do I tell if its just the thermostat screwing up or if I have to replace my headgasket?
Does the headgasket also influence oil pressure? The oil pressure drops a bit, but I think thats due to alot of highway driving. Could anything else be causing my car to overheat? I 've had the rad flushed and checked for pressure leaks and its good, so now I'm unsure where to start. Any ideas? I've got 230 k on it now.
Thanks,
Jaxxine

use a good flush to flush out the radiator for starters
then install a 180 thermostat with a fresh gasket
check all the hoses to make sure none are soft or might have a pin hole
and also check the fan motor as they sometimes go out or turn slower as they get older.

To help you figure out if there is a headgasket leak. Check the coolant reservoir for bubbling/burping while the engine is running. Also periodically check the coolant level in the radiator. Check the oil cap and the radiator cap for a light brown milky sludge. On enginestartup see if you've gotwhite smoke from the tailpipe. If there is a 'yes' to one of the above, you'll need a new headgasket.
