Default exhaust question

I am wondering what the stock size exhaust system is for the turbo 2.2. I have read about a lot of people upgrading their exhaust to 3". Is it very expensive to upgrade to this size, and is it worth it?

Default RE: exhaust question

100% worth it. Turbo cars need no more backpressure than the turbo. Gains in the range of 25-30 WHEEL HP are seen from running just an open downpipe, no cat, no nothing. But, driving around with an open downpipe gets old quick. Best bet is to do the 3" pipe with 3" cat and a good strait though muffler like a magnaflow. Check out www.fwdperformance.com or call Cindy at 281-288-4411. She has pre mandrel bent exhaust setups for our daytonas in 2.5-3" range. Plus mufflers and cats. Next best thing after that is to do a downpipe dump with either a manual cut out, or an electronic cut out valve that, when opened is the same as running an open downpipe, but you can close it after your done at the track......Or the street. Hope that helps. There are pics of an electronic cut out on my cardomain page if you would like to see what it is. I got the dump pipe and electronic valve both from summit racing. Plus, some really good info to be had about our daytonas at the other links in my sig.

BTW, as far as price. You cant get a more effective mod on a turbo car for the price. Local shop or FWD performance. That is the FIRST mod you need to do on a turbocharged car. Helps spool, top end power, does not hurt a thing.

Is there much power difference between the 2.5" and 3" ? The 3" setup would cost quite a bit more it seems.
