Default RE: New to Daytonas

Not too familiar with the V6 Daytonas, but the trouble spots for them usually lurk in the 4-speed transmission, the major downside of the V6 daytonas. Any slipping, problems going into a gear, or hard shifting, would probably indicate a transmission rebuild. Make sure they owner has used ATF fluid only, other fluids screw up Chrysler auto transmissions. Check the dipstick, it should be a bright pink. Dark red is OK but it usually indicates it's old. Any black sludge on the dipstick is from worn out clutches and could mean the transmission is on its last legs. Also check the oil (should be a nice honey brown color, black if its old... if it looks like a milkshakey kind of color and texture, bad sign! That means a blown head gasket), and coolant (should be free of redish rusty sludge). Make sure you test drive it and everything runs smooth. Make sure no smoke comes out of the tail pipe, and if smoke comes out, note what color it is.
