BALANCE SHAFTS
Hey all, I am thinking about taking the balance shafts off my 2.5 na. 1989 Daytone ES.Anyone out there deal with this?
I am fully aware of the procedure and realize that the oil supply will need to be plugged, but my question is.....
Does this give the 2.5 any seat-of-the-pants HP gains?
Is it possible just to cut the chain and leave the shafts in place to keep from having to plug the oil hole?
I have read that the gains are only produced in the 3500-4000rpm range ~ good for racing but not really useful around town.
In contrast, I have also read that the HP gain is noticable in the whole RPM curve.
Just wondering if the labor will be worth it, or if I should just wait until I happen to have the pan off for some other reason and do it then. I don't drive it that much. Stays parked most of the time.

what... the .... hell.... are balance shafts?... i've heard lots' of talk about removing them... negative and positive i know they make the car vibrate more when they ar'nt their... but otha then that i dont have a clue what they do or are... please explain.
They are shafts at the bottoms of some of the turbo dodge motors that counter rotate at twice the speed of the engine to help with vibration. Lots of people say they dont really help. I agree. I took them out of my RT engine and its not any more rough at all. They weigh quite a bit, and the motor revs MUCH better without them and with a fidanza flywheel.
