Default Boiling Fill Tank

I have had consistant heat problems with this engine and tried a number of things to cure it. It must mean something when the radiator fill tank/overflow tank is boiling. My guess is this is why I am getting air locks in my cooling system, but i have never noticed one of these tank to be full boil before. What does it tell you???????????????

Sounds to me like a head gasket. I've blown a few and the first thing that happens is pressure from the cylinders is pushed into the cooling jackets around the head. This makes it look like the coolant is "boiling" in the overflow. I've also been lucky enough to experience "The Great White Cloud"- that's where the coolant is pumping into the cylinders, making it run like crap, and burning the coolant and sending it out the back like a James Bond smoke screen. Try doing a compression test or a cooling system pressure test and see if that finds a leak.

Thanks for getting back to me. You are correct I finally took it in to a rad shop he tested the coolant and found combustion gases present which indicates a blown Head Gasket. The thing is the car is not running badly besides using coolant. Have you ever heard of using one of these head gasket sealant additives(found on internet) They cost between 70-100 bucks. Some say they garantee it too work. I know its not a proper fix but the car is not really worth investing 1800 in to repair. But for a hun I think I give it a try.

I have NEVER had anything like that work for more than a day if I was lucky. What engine do you have? I had a head gasket swapped in my 2.2 in less than 10 hours, including smoke breaks, lunch, and a game of paintball... If you know someone mechanically inclined, I'm sure you can get it changed for far less than 1800. The guys at the place I work can do a head gasket on one of these in 3-4 hours. If you're up to trying, get a Haynes manual and invest about 100-150 bucks and a saturday. I didnt have to take the manifolds off mine and shaved a ton of time, they can come off with the head on 2.2-2.5's. If you want to know how to do one quick, let me know...
