Default Daytona noob

Me and my cohort in crime have recently acquired a 1989 Shelby Turbo II in less-than-mint condition (read: POS).

As far as we can tell, the #4 cyl isn't firing and the orgy of wiring and hoses doesn't help in finding the problem. We're not exactly experts on car modification but we are working with a mechanic his brother's garage who does know what he's doing. Yesterday we made sure that the engine wasn't seized but it is impossible to start and it won't even turn over, so we're counting on a dead battery. Our main issue right now, however, is whether or not we will need a new engine. We really don't care if we have to settle for a turbo I engine or even a N/A engine but we set our project for this project at about $1000 to get and keep the car running.

Another note should be that this car is completely stripped. It was originally driven as a drag/street race car, and EVERYTHING has been taken out for weight savings...including the wing. We're not really concerned with cosmetics since we are the 5th and 6th owners of this car, but we do want to be able to sell it and not lose all our money. We're heading over to the shop in a few hours and I'll put up some pics once we get back.

So my question for you all is: Is it possible? And if so, can you tell us the who what where when and how?

it will be hard to say until you figure out what exactly is wrong.

we're gonna be testing for leaks tomorrow or thursday...we think it's probably a head gasket, but it could run the gamut of problems

Good luck with it. I hope for your sake that the Turbo II is OK otherwise it will be more expensive on you and worth less after your done if you intend to sell it.

Unfortunately, these cars don't pull any good money, yet. The few that do are in near new condition with complete documentation and low mileage from what I've seen. A close friend is really into turbo K-cars since they are inexpensive to come by. Good luck with this venture.

well we found out that our turbo is blow and a bunch of other crap is wrong so, in short, new motor time. We found a 95k running one a couple hours away so we're going to get that, but right now we're tearing apart our current one. I'm not sure if the new one is a Turbo I or II but we can still use most of the stuff from our motor. Will we be able to do this thing in a couple weeks?

FYI: Most parts cannot be swapped, so if you are thinking of using the other turbo motors parts on the Turbo II you cannot unless it too is a Turbo II motor. Almost every part between the Turbo I and Turbo II is completely different and are non-interchangeable. You can swap some parts or assemblies from one to the other, but you have to know which ones exactly or you will end up worse off than what you are now.[sm=nono.gif][sm=noooo.gif][sm=nothatway.gif]
