Default radio problems

I am in the process of restoring a 91 daytona shelby and I am working inside the car. The factory stereo does not turn on. I installed a new cd player with the proper wiring harness and after turning it on the sound that comes out is really quite and kind of high pitched. I have tried a different stereo and also checked my wiring. Is it possible that since this car ad a infinity stereo that there is a amp built in somewhere that is messed up or something?. I am stumped; short of rewiring all the stereo wires I am confused abut what to do next. Thanks for any help

I was thinking that years ago, I put a player and cd changer in a daytona that had infinity speakers; but maybe not. I will try different speakers in the morning, thanks for the reply.
