fuel pump problems
I have a 91 daytona 2.5 turbo, it quit running the other day, acted like it ran out of fuel, towed it home, cycled the key, the car started, ran about 30 seconds, an died, cycled the key again, and nothing. So, I thought it must be the fuel pump, so, before changing it I thought I would give it one more try, had a friend cycle the key, the fuel pump kicked on, built pressure, we started the car again it ran 30 seconds and died. Thought I'd try it again, but this time I removed the fuel line from the fuel filter, had my friend cycle the key, nothing, by accident he turned the key to far, and the engine cranked, then the fuel came through the line, after testing and retesting, we found the only time the fuel pump would work was when the engine was cranking, this really has me scratching my head, anyone have any ideas why a electric fuel pump would do this? And any ideas on how to fix it? Thanks for any info you can give!
The fuel pump only primes the lines when your cranking. It will not actually feed fuel until the car is running/idling. If the pump only works periodically for a very short period of time it means the pump is worn and needs to be changed. Change the fuel filter along with it.
Actually my '86 2.2L Daytona primes every time i switch on the ignition until the pressure is build up
I would temp bypass or activate the fuelpump relays with a electrical wire just to see if it keeps running
Its located on the drivers side fender
There are a few , just feel which one clicks when u turn the ignition
I pulled off the connector and put power on the pump through that connector to let it continuously run for a short time to see what the issue was , in my case the pump was bad and gave barely any pressure
