Default Help! Mysterious electrical ignition problem

Ok..I have a 91 Daytona ES with the 2.5 ltr non turbo engine. It has a new battery and a new computer (ESM). This car runs well but on occassion it goes dead..No fuel...No spark. Very dangerous if your on the freeway. Anyway, on occassion, when you turn the ignition on, all the lights on the instrument panel come on (system check) except the "check engine" light. The engine will turn but not start. Now if you leave the ignition to the "on" position for about 5 mins or so..The "check engine" light will come on and you hear the regulator on the TBI click and hum for a second. The "check engine" light then goes out and then the engine starts fine. I have done the check codes thing and every time I do it, I get a 12. Meaning "Battery or computer recently disconnected". And it even says this when it hasnt been disconnected. But thats my problem in a nut shell. Anyone have any idea what and where the problem is? Short?? Auto Shutdown Relay?? Or maybe the Body Control computer?? Any help is highly appreciatted! Thanks.

Please also email any repair info to moderndaysamson@hotmail.com

On your positive battery cable you should have another lead that runs off it that goes to a plug. This is the power to your computer inside the car. Check that and make sure it has a good connection. A buddy of mine had the same problem in his 88 Daytona and after he pulled most of his hair out discovered that the connector was bad.

i have a 90 daytona with the same engine. the wire harness for the computer (which is located on the driver's fender) has a bolt running through the middle of it, make sure it's tight. no more tourque than a spark plug.
