Default Oil pump priming

I have a 1985 daytona, and I changed the the oil pump. I primed the pump but because of the weather I couldn't finish the install. Now its in the engine, I was wondering how to prime the pump while its in the engine without taking the pan and pump off again... Anyone know the answer...?

Just crank the engine over with the coil wire disconnected.

Ok I tried that for about 30 seconds and it didn't work... Can I try anything else...? Like maybe pour oil into the oil filter tube...?

Like take the filter off before doing that of course...? Also does it need to be off the ramps and flat on the ground...?

Loosen the oil filter AND disconnect the coil. I cut my teeth on these things in the early 90s. Have many stories to tell.

Don't crank longer than 30 seconds with a cool down time between attempts. You'll damage the starter.

It's been a while since I had my engine apart, but I believe that the oil pump is driven by the distributor shaft. It may be possible to remove the distributor and stick some sort of rod down to the oil pump shaft and drive it directly. You will need to fashion some sort of end to the rod to fit the end of the oil pump shaft.
