Default Just bought an 87 Shelby Z. Please help

Hey guys, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Mike Fallat, I live in Detroit area Michigan. My project car is a 96 Dodge Stealth TT, I always put the Stealth to sleep in winter and I just bought an 87 Shelby Z as a winter beater.

I have a few questions about this car. First and most importanty...When I bought the car, the owner told me that the transmission had been rebuilt 9 months ago and the clutch and pressure plate replaced and the car has sat ever since. However after buying the car and driving home, I find that the clutch slips badly mostly in 5th gear or when I really hit boost. Im wondering if there is some type of adjustment to the clutch? Im not familiar with cable clutch setups. Hopefully the owner didnt lie to me about the clutch being replaced, it was waay too icy and the car didn't have plates or insurance, so I wasn't able to get on it enough to detect the slipping.

Second thing, Is there some trick to manually sliding the drivers seat forward, the switches on the center console do nothing. I haven't checked fuses nor do I even know where the fuse panel is located yet.

Third thing, the alternator was recently replaced and is obvious that it is brand new, however the "power loss" light is on, and I notice that the battery gauge doesn't move up or down. I believe that the alternator is putting out, as the headlights go from bright to dim when I cut the ignition. Is there some type of sensor that could be bad, or something unplugged?

Thanks guys so much for your help. Once I get a little more familiar with the car and this setup, I hope to be able to contribute back to the forum. Thanks in advance for any replies.

Why can't people have the simple problems anymore? First I'd have to say if nothing else whomever installed the trans if they DID replace the clutch then they obviously didn't know what they were doing if it's slipping already after only 9 months.

If I'm not mistaken I don't believe there is a way to manually move the seat unless you want to play with the gears and motors of the seat. I could be wrong but I haven't known of any power seat vehicles to have a way to move the drivers' seat.

Check your alternator for all the wires. 2nd check for output voltage. If it's low it may be triggering the light. I have actually had quiet a few issues with alternators from Advanced. I bought one for my '64 Dodge and the first one the casing screws LITERALLY fell out of the alternator. The 2nd one only puts out around 11 volts. So whereas your alternator may APPEAR to be working it may not be working to the required levels.

Hope this helps you out some.
