i don't know how machanical inclined you are but if you can swap motors i would think and engine rebuild wouldn't be out of the question.
personally i would just rebuild the 2.5, so you don't lose that extra torque of the 2.5

i have an 88 pacifica that had a 2.5turbo i pulled it out and put an 86 laser 2.2 turbo in. no problems so far......hope this helps.

I think the engine control package is the same also, shoud be a virtual "bolt in"
however as posted your low end torque will be lower, I think about 30 lb, but dont
quote me...but on a budget, wrench on!!!
