Default tranny help

ok...i have a 90 daytona and the tranny has just gone out and the mechanic wants $2500 to fix it. Are there any alternative transmissions that will fit in my car even if it's not a daytona transmission? I heard that most daytona transmissions will go bad and don't have a good rep. So i'd just like to know if there's any other models of trans that i can drop in?
Thank you for your suggestions!!!!!

What transmission is in it? And $2500 to fix it? Is it gold plated? You can pick up a good reman tranny for a LOT less than $2500. You should be able to have a dealer or parts store cross referance it for another model car with a compatable tranny.

I got a 91 Daytona non turbo, and I'm thinking of selling it if i can't get it fixed. What are you willing to pay if I can't fix it? For the right price, i'll give you the whole car. If you plan on racing that wouldn't be a bad opportunity.

I don't know where your mechanic got $2500 from, but it cost me $1000 to get mine rebuilt a few years ago on my 90 V6.
