noobie question
Hey, I couldn't find the answer to my question so I figure I'll just ask the guys that probably know. I did some trans work for a friend and as payment he was going to give me his daytona sitting broken in his backyard. I know what's broken, I know it'll run, but it's the N/A version. My question was how easy is it to turbo it? In other words, is the N/A block/compression ratio the same as the turbo model or would it just be worth it to buy the turbo model instead? If I take that car as payment, it WILL get a turbo, so at this point, this question is going to determine whether or not I get a daytona. Thanks in advance.
You can turbo it, but you would probably want to keep the boost low or run an intercooler to make the engine last. The NA comnpression ratio is 8.9-9.0 while the turbo had 7.8-8.1. The only difference should be the pistons.
ok so the block SHOULD be the same. Anybody know if they are? I'd hate to buy the turbo crank/rods/pistons and turn out that the block will have to be bored over or something. Guess I could just get a thicker head gasket and do the math to see what the new compression ratio is. Anybody know the max psi the factory internals can take on a turbo model?

Not all blocks are the same..
84-85 10 mm headbolts
some 85-93 11mm headbolts..
87(TII models)-93 were crossed drilled
87-88 model TII engines has HEAVY DUTY rods and FORGED cranks
89-93 had what was called "Common Block" which meant a 2.2L or 2.5L crank would work in the same block.
84-85 turbo model rods are large
86-89 TI rods Avoid!!!
87-93 TURBO RODS GOOD!
84-85 HEADS G-HEAD
86-93 Swirl port head
headgaskets also change starting with the 87 TII to 93
last but notleast in anyway
The cam sprocket changed in 89 to a round tooth belt/sprocket... earlier models had the square tooth
I hope this helps
